Round the world microlight flight
Wg Cdr Rahul Monga and Wg Cdr Anil Kumar are undertaking this expedition of 40,806 kilometres in an attempt to beat the existing world record and create a new one in circumnavigating the world in a single engine aircraft.
The expedition is now headed to Allahabad. After a few hours of rest, it will take off again towards Bagdogra. From there the duo will head out to Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Russia United States, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Denmark, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Iran, Oman and will finally return to India from the Western region into Jamnagar and to Delhi via Udaipur.
Currently, United Kingdoms Colin Bodill, who became the first person to circumnavigate the globe solo in a weight-shift microlight flight, holds the record of flying in 99 days in 2001. The IAF team will try to better Bodills record by attempting to set a record in 64 days. Monga and Kumar will fly a two-seater CTSW plane with a Rotax engine.
The German-designed, Ukraine-manufactured aircraft has already been the companion of the two pilots for a while and the duo has logged in 50 hours till date. Flight Design CTSW is a Germany-based company and is one of the leading manufacturers of light sport aircraft. It is also known for its aerodynamically clean design and high-tech construction.
If all goes well, the expedition plans to end in Delhi on August 4.
