‘Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav - 2016’ Successfully Progressed in to Day -3 Highlighting India’s Rich Heritage

‘Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav - 2016’ a celebrated festival organised by the Ministry of Culture, successfully progressed in to Day-3, highlighting India’s rich heritage. The glorious carnival that initially began on 15th October at the IGNCA campus, Janpath, New Delhi, will continue to mesmerize the audience through power- packed performances, art & culture, food and shopping joys till 24th October, 2016.

Today, the South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur presented a kaleidoscope of the traditional arts, culture and handicrafts of South India, from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and the Union Territories of Lakshadweep and Puducherry.

Alongside, the day was graced by a magnificent performance by Dr. Padma Subramaniam, a renowned Indian classical Bharata Natyam dancer, choreographer, music composer and musician. The talented personality performed an elaborate dance sequence, converting the arena into an oasis of bliss especially for dance lovers. In addition to this, the audience also witnessed breath-taking tribal and classical art forms from different cities and towns across the country accompanied by a wide-ranging assortment of regional cuisines and delicacies prepared by traditional chefs.

The Chief Guest of the evening was the Union Minister for Steel Shri Chowdhary Birendra Singh. The Programme was chaired by the Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge), Dr. Mahesh Sharma. The Chief Guest applauded the efforts of the Ministry of Culture for organising the splendid festival that appealingly highlighted the undiscovered talent and art forms from different cities and towns from across the country, well connecting country’s youth to its rich heritage.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY:

·                     Stage performance by Dr. Padma Subramaniam, acclaimed Bharatnatyam danseuse

·                     Martial arts and dance forms such as ‘KathiSamu’ and ‘karasamu’ from Andhra Pradesh

·                     ‘MappilaKolkali’ and ‘Margam dance’ from Kerala

·                     ‘Kai Silambam’ from Puducherry

·                     ‘Devarattam’ from Tamil Nadu

·                     ‘Lava dance’ from Lakshadweep,

·                     Other dance forms including ‘Lava dance’, ‘Karagam’, ‘Dummy horse dance’ and more mesmerized the connoisseurs of tradition art

·                     Shopping stalls displayed ‘Kalamkari’ sarees, ‘Chennapattna’ wooden craft, Tanjore paintings, Bronze icons, ‘Ikat’ sarees, Jute durries and more

KEY HIGHLIGHTS SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW:

·                     The Governor of Punjab & Chairman, NZCC, Patiala, Shri V.P. Singh Badnore will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.

·                     Union Minister for Defence, Sh. Manohar Parrikar along with Union Minister of State for Culture & Tourism, Dr. Mahesh Sharma have also promised to glorify the event with their venerated presence

·                     An enthralling performance by UshaUthap, a renowned singer

·                     As part of these celebrations, North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala under the Ministry of Culture will be organizing a cultural extravaganza of folk dances & singing titled – ‘Uttar Bharat Ke Lok Rang’

·                     Folk dances and singing to include:

o                   Jabro, Rouff, Kud (Jammu & Kashmir)

o                   SirmouriNati,GaddiNati (Himachal Pradesh)

o                   Sammi, Bhangra (Punjab)

o                   Chhapeli (Uttarakhand)

o                   Dhamal, Shiv Stuti, Jangam-Jogi (Haryana)

o                   Kalbelia, Angiger (Rajasthan)

o                   Langa-Mangniar singers (Rajasthan), Folk/Sufi singers of Kashmir, Sh. Gulzar Ahmad Gani & Zulekha Bano.
