Gp Capt Amrit Lal has been working as Command Engineering Officer 'A' since August, 1988. He is responsible to look after the entire MiG Fleet under Western Air Command. During his tenure, he managed reequipment of two squadrons. He kept a close watch on the re-equipment of these squadrons and intervened to prevent bottlenecks and hold ups by thorough planning and intelligent anticipation. He also monitored the training programme for officers and technicians and ensured that adequate trained manpower was available in time to the squadrons to maintain new aircraft. The MiG fleet was plagued with problems in the year 1988-89 and 1989-90. Gp Capt Amrit Lal monitored these problems with great care and patience, he worked late hours to get the correct picture and apprise the authorities of the action to be taken. He contacted the technical officers at the Wings and the Squadrons during the period every day and kept their morale high by encouraging them to come to grips with the problems faced by them. The MiG fleet is already on the way to recovery. Gp Capt Amrit Lal has contributed significantly towards its rejuvenation. For his hard work, professional approach, selfless and indomitable effort under adverse circumstances, the President is pleased to award Vishisht Seva Medal to Gp Capt Amrit Lal. |
