An oil-on-canvas painting of INS Cauvery. This particular painting is placed at the mess hall of Western Naval Command HQ in Mumbai. She was a modified Black Swan Class sloop that was built for the Royal Indian Navy. Like corvettes, sloops were specialized convoy-defence vessels, with anti-aircraft and anti-submarine capability. These vessels were designed to have a longer range than a destroyer at the expense of a lower top speed, while remaining capable of outrunning surfaced German U-boats. INS Cauvery was delivered to the Indian Navy on 23 August 1943 and she served for 34 years, before being decommissioned on 30 September 1977.
