Assistance to Naga Girl by Indian Army

Miss Muwala Sangtam, 25 yrs old lady resident of Vill Changchor, Distt Kiphire, Nagaland lost both her upper limbs on 8 Oct 2012 in an unfortunate incident. She was initially managed at Civil hosp, Dimapur where revision surgery of both upper limbs was carried out. Artificial limbs which were provided initially were very heavy and non functional which she discarded after a short course of time.

Field Hosp at Dimapur, Nagaland was given the responsibility by Spear Corps to provide her with artificial prosthesis for both upper limbs under Op Sadbhavana in the yr 2014-15. The task was difficult as her limbs were amputated from the shoulder joints.  The aim was to provide light weight artificial prosthesis with partial functionality and good cosmetic look. The artificial limbs were procured and fitted on 26 Mar 2015. This was followed by intensive rehabilitation regime. She has now been using the artificial limbs for approx 6 months. Partial functionality has been achieved which is likely to improve further with continuous use. Her parents have been  her major source of support.

Lt Gen Bipin Rawat, GOC Spear Corps interacted with the lady on 26 Sep 2015 and appreciated the quality of the limbs provided to the girl and the efforts put in by the unit and specialist doctors. He further reiterated that the Army would continue all efforts to help and aid the Naga people and Naga society with various welfare activities.
